I’m back again showing you can change themes in Kali Linux. Do you want to change your interface while doing pen testing. Kali rolling comes with a great customized interface with awesome icons and graphics, but time comes you’ll get bored after a long time. So I’m writing this tutorial to show you how you can install themes in Kali Linux.We’ll gonna wrap this tutorial in simple easy steps.
1. Arc Red GTK & shell theme
A red variation of Horst3180’s Arc Theme.
Requirements
- Gnome/GTK 3.14, 3.16, 3.18 or 3.20
- The gnome-themes-standard package
- The murrine engine. This has different names depending on your distro.
- gtk-engine-murrine (Arch Linux)
- gtk2-engines-murrine (Debian, Ubuntu, elementary OS)
- gtk-murrine-engine (Fedora)
- gtk2-engine-murrine (openSUSE)
- gtk-engines-murrine (Gentoo)
Main distributions that meet these requirements are:
- Arch Linux and Arch Linux based distros
- Ubuntu 15.04, 15.10 and 16.04 (Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10 are not supported)
- elementary OS Freya
- Debian 8, Testing or Unstable
- Gentoo
- Fedora 21 – 24
- openSUSE 13.2, Leap 42.1 and Tumbleweed
- Derivatives of these distributions should work, as well.

How To Install
- Download
- Extract to /usr/share/themes ~/.themes (create it (in your home folder) if necessary);
- Alternatively, click on the install button next to the theme (follow instructions by clicking the question mark next to the install button).
- Change via distribution-specific tweak tool.
Firefox Theme
There are firefox-themes available for the Arc themes:

Chrome/Chromium theme
To install the Chrome/Chromium theme go to the Extra folder and drag and drop the arc-theme.crx or arc-dark-theme.crx or arc-darker-theme.crx file into the Chrome/Chromium window. The source of the Chrome themes is located in the source folder “OSX-Arc-White > Extra folder > arc-theme.crx
Install Plank theme
To install the Plank theme, copy the extra/Arc-Plank folder to ~/.local/share/plank/themes or to /usr/share/plank/themes for system-wide use. Now open the Plank preferences window by executing plank –preferences from a terminal and select Arc-Plank as the theme.
Wallpapers
Wallpapers are included in the extra folder in the OSX Arc White folder there are a few selected wallpapers including the one displayed in the screenshots.

3. Gnome-OSX

This is a gnome-desktop-interpretation of Mac OSX. I’ve tried to implement the feel of OSX on gnome applications.
Initially based on the Arc-theme-files.
I’ve spent a great deal of time and effort on this theme to fine-tuning it, so I hope you try it before you judge!
Main features:
- Nautilus with blurred sidebar.
- Same theming across GTK2 and GTK3.
Separate download for Shell-themes:
- Shell theme with white dock and slightly dark top-bar
- Shell theme with dark dock and dark top-bar
This theme is developed on gnome 3.20 and updated to 3.24. This only works on a gnome desktop, with no support for other desktop environments.
When, as such, theming does not look the way it should be: make sure you have installed the necessary theme-“engines”:
- The gnome-themes-standard package,

How to install:
Just copy the extracted file to a ‘.themes’-folder you make in your home directory. Then use Tweak-tool to select the GTK and shell theme. LOG OUT AND BACK IN for changes to take effect!
To put the buttons to the left open a terminal:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout "close,minimize,maximize:"
To put the buttons back to the right in case you want to revert:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout ":minimize,maximize,close"
4. Ultra-Flat
Description:
This is my interpretation of the total flat desktop. It is a slightly modified version of the famous Numix theme, with no border, flat rounded window buttons, and a grey selection color.
Only tested under Ubuntu. Sorry, I don’t have much time to improve it

5. reNIX (for Unity and GS)
Finally updated to GTK 3.6! Thanks to strycore, who has done it possible and now he is fixing minor issues.
reNIX is a squared variation of the unity and metacity themes GTKdroid and Nööp packaged with a tweaked version of GTK3 theme NIX.
